Unusual Vintage Ruby & Diamond Ring Made of White Gold, c. 1955

This midcentury immediately won us over with its wonderful natural rubies. The precious stones are round faceted and set in a horizontal row next to each other, with the largest stone in the centre. Their colour is intense red, they shine clear and bright. The rubies appear to rest on cushions of white diamonds, as the diamonds, which are set slightly lower and in curved shapes, accompany the rubies like a sparkling border. The diamonds used here have a total weight of around 1.47 carats and delight with their fine white colour (top Wesselton) and excellent clarity. Delicate white gold bars lead to the finger and the three-part ring band. Rings with three prominent gemstones have a special significance in jewellery history: they are called ‘trilogy rings’ and can symbolise the time two lovers have lived together. The three gemstones can be read to mean that past, present and future have been united in one piece of jewellery. In the language of gemstones, rubies are regarded as the stones of love, as their red sparkle is reminiscent of passion for another person and diamonds, as indestructible and therefore eternal gemstones, also symbolise the duration of the bond.
