The custom of presenting a diamond ring as an engagement gift has been documented since the late Middle Ages. However, this hardest of all gemstones was a real treasure and almost exclusively the privilege of the nobility. It was only after rich deposits were discovered in South Africa in the late 19th century that the broader classes were able to afford diamond jewelry. The classic solitaire ring, i.e. a ring with just one diamond, is said to date back to a design by the famous jeweller Tiffany & Co. in 1886. To this day, this form of ring has remained the epitome of the engagement ring: It combines all the symbolism that can be expected from a piece of jewelry that is based on a promise. One such solitaire ring was created on our behalf here in Berlin. At its center is a sparkling brilliant-cut diamond weighing 1.60 carats. The diamond is slightly warm-toned in the colour grade "Lightly tinted white+ (I)" and impresses with very good clarity "VVS2" and a very good degree of brilliance. In its yellow gold setting, the stone appears flawlessly white. The ring was deliberately produced sustainably. The diamond is a vintage stone from the 1960s, which is used here as a second stone. It comes from a brooch that we were unfortunately unable to restore. The gold also comes from vintage pieces of jewellery. Two independent expert opinions on the quality of the diamond are included with the ring. We love this ring design because it’s simple and lets the beautiful diamond take center stage.
