"Part of the essence of the Baroque, which had its heyday in the 17th century, is the swelling movement of all forms, which powerfully and vividly urge to merge into one another. To the jewellery the baroque curlicues give a special plasticity and lively force." From a 1950s Blachian Antik-Schmuck (BAS) catalogue. Founded as early as 1742 by Franz Eligius Blachian in Traunstein, Germany, the gold and silversmith Blachian Antik-Schmuck is dedicated to works of the past. Mostly cast in silver, more rarely in gold, the company produced jewellery whose individual forms were taken from works of art from different eras. Thus, in an old Blachian catalogue, in addition to Renaissance elements, Romanesque and Gothic forms and those from the time of the migration of peoples can be found. However, the largest part of Blachian's jewellery creations is made up of Baroque forms. The pair of cufflinks here, created in the mid-20th century, features large sculptural elements that beautifully illustrate the principle of "swelling forms" described above. C-sweeps, mirrored in the center show sculptural acanthus leaves with sweeping tips. The pair of cufflinks came to us unworn from the estate of a Munich jeweller.
