Vintage “Hands of Hope” tafellamp – keramische handen met...

Vintage “Hands of Hope” table lamp – ceramic hands with an opaline glass light globe – 1970s A particularly sculptural vintage table lamp in which two large, glossy white ceramic hands seem to cradle a glowing glass globe. A striking design that is decorative, surreal, and elegant at once, and also immediately captivates as a work of art even when switched off. This type of lamp is regularly labeled on the international vintage market as “Hands of Hope” or Hands Holding Globe Lamp. Comparable items are consistently dated to the 1970s and executed in glazed ceramic combined with an opaline or milk-white glass globe. There is some variation in the exact origin among similar pieces: identical or closely related models are offered as Italian as well as French design. Without a visible factory or designer mark, it is therefore safer not to assign a precise manufacturer with certainty. The design is typical of the experimental interior styling of the 1970s: figurative ceramics combined with an almost Space Age-like light globe. The hands and forearms are fully finished in high-gloss white ceramic. The round glass shade has a soft milky appearance and is further adorned with subtle etched/satin floral motifs that are particularly beautiful when the lighting is off. When the lamp is lit, the globe emits a pleasantly warm, diffuse light. The open gesture of the hands makes the globe seem to hover truly between the fingers.
