Alla auktioner / Smycken & ädelstenar / Vintage Platinum Ring with Precious Jade & Diamonds, c. 2000

Natural jade is still considered the most desirable gemstone in China today. It is believed that jade promotes health, success and a long life in harmony with nature - which is why high-quality jade is often valued at gold. For many Chinese, life without a piece of jade jewelry is unimaginable, as it is said to bring balance, harmony, beauty and happiness to the wearer. The tradition of jade processing can be traced back to the Stone Age. The Palace Museum in Taipei in Taiwan preserves some so-called Cong from Neolithic times, ritual objects whose function is still not fully understood. One of the most famous works made of jade is the jade cabbage, a masterpiece probably from the 19th century. But jade was by no means only used in China to create wonderful pieces of jewelry and works of art. The British Museum in London, for example, displays a deceptively lifelike turtle that was carved from a single large block of jade around 1600 under the Mughal rulers. However, the term "jade" is not always unambiguous. In Europe and the USA, "jade" includes both jadeite (hard jade) and nephrite (soft jade). However, only jadeite jade, which is also sought and collected in China as the highest quality grade, achieves the highest prices. This ring, which sets an oval cabochon of polished jadeite jade of a beautiful, fresh green color, is therefore a great stroke of luck. The ring itself is made of platinum and is also adorned with sparkling brilliant-cut diamonds. The cool, white sparkle of the diamonds beautifully emphasizes the bright green of the jade. The design language of the ring is vaguely reminiscent of historical models, while the details show that it was made only recently. We date it to around the year 2000. An independent expert opinion on the quality of the gemstones is enclosed with the ring.
