Vintage Ring with Emerald & Diamonds in White Gold, Vienna c. 1970

The emerald is one of the most valuable gemstones and has been highly valued in many cultures since ancient times. The ancient Egyptians attributed healing powers to it and Pliny the Elder wrote about it: "When the eyes are weakened, they are strengthened again by looking at the emerald. The soft green of the stone dispels languor". Nero is also said to have worn an emerald as a monocle to strengthen his eyes and Cleopatra is even said to have enhanced her beauty and youth by wearing emeralds, which is why the emerald is still considered the pharaoh's favorite stone today. We do not know whether emeralds can really preserve youth and beauty - but we can say with certainty that the stone in this vintage ring is pleasing to the eye! The oval emerald cabochon has a deep green and a beautiful jardin and is accompanied by sixteen fine brilliant-cut diamonds weighing a total of around one carat. The ring is crafted from white gold, whose bright shine not only complements the light of the diamonds, but also intensifies the green of the emerald. The cabochon-cut gemstone has natural inclusions, which are also known as jardin, or garden. They are reminiscent of the tropical forests of South America, where the largest emerald deposits originate. Committed to the beauty of form and workmanship in every detail, this ring is an exemplary example of the art of jewelry in the second half of the 20th century. According to the hallmark, the piece of jewelry was made in Vienna, from where it came to us. But even half a century after its creation, it is beautifully preserved and ready to adorn the finger of a lady with an eye for the aesthetic subtleties of the time.
