Vintage Ring With Untreated Ceylon Sapphire & Diamonds In Platinum

The vast majority of sapphires that can be bought in shops today have been manipulated to make them look as attractive as possible. Sapphires are often heated to improve their purity or color, less often filled with lead glass or even radioactively irradiated to improve their color or purity. In this handmade ring, however, there is a sapphire that has not been manipulated to enhance its natural beauty, apart from cutting and polishing the rough stone. A multi-faceted ring face is set on a narrow platinum ring band. Twelve white diamonds sparkle in a frame around the large colored stone. The centerpiece of the ring is the medium blue sapphire weighing around 2.95 carats. The gemstone, which originates from Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, has not been heated or purity-enhanced. It shines before us just as nature created it. Its powerful, compact shape and platinum workmanship allow us to date the ring, which came to us from the south of France, to around 1955. The small platinum hallmark on the outside of the ring band proves that it was created in France. An independent appraisal from Vienna has confirmed the quality of the materials and is supplied with the ring.
