(*) Volker Bussmann (Waldshut, Germany, 1945) is a visual artist, printer and editor, recognized for his contributions to Concrete Art, geometric abstraction, and the investigation of visual perception in the second half of the 20th century. Between 1965 and 1970 he studied art at Frankfurt. In 1968 he complemented his theoretical profile with research stints at the prestigious Courtauld Institute of Art and Warburg Institute in London. In 1969 he founded his own laboratory and serigraphy studio in Germany. Absolute control of this process allowed him to develop an impeccably crafted graphic oeuvre, characterized by rasters and mathematically precise color gradations. During the 1970s he focused on Optical Art (Op Art). Through the use of concentric lines, luminous gradations, and mirror-like structures, he explored how the human eye processes volume and depth on two-dimensional supports. From 1973 he participated in prominent collective graphic editions in Europe and the United States. In 1976 he was named to the board of the Frankfurter Kunstverein (Frankfurt Art Association). In the 1970s and 1980s he patented an additive color mixing system and experimented with historical techniques such as chromolithography applied to botanical and anatomical shapes. His career stands out for an exceptional integration of scientific rigor, mastery of artisanal printing, and the currents of German geometric avant-garde.
