WEAVER JACK Yulparija language, c.1928 - 2010 Untitled, 2004 acrylic on canvas 103 x 166 cm bears inscription verso: Weaver Jack, 168 x 106, 2653, 780994, Short St Gallery, 2004, Lungarung PROVENANCE Short St Gallery, Western Australia, Cat No. 780994 Private Collection, Australian Capital Territory Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Short St Gallery This painting by Weaver Jack depicts Lungurung, a site within Yulparija Country associated with important ancestral narratives and ceremonial knowledge. The work reflects the artist's intimate connection to the desert landscape, translating memory and movement across Country into a carefully structured composition. Fields of colour and rhythmic mark-making map the topography of Lungurung, suggesting water sources, sand- hills, and pathways shaped by ancestral activity. While the imagery is distilled, it carries a precise cultural meaning, grounded in the knowledge systems of the Western Desert. Weaver Jack, born circa 1928, lived a largely traditional life before painting later in life, bringing a depth of lived experience and cultural authority to his practice. His works are recognised for their clarity and restraint, conveying both the physical and spiritual dimensions of Country. © WEAVER JACK / Copyright Agency, 2026
