Wedgwood Dolphin Pattern Bone China Plate Designed by Laurence Whistler

A fine bone china plate manufactured by Wedgwood in the Dolphin pattern, designed by the British artist and glass engraver Laurence Whistler. The circular plate features a recessed center and a flat rim with a gilt edge. The central decoration consists of a transfer-printed and hand-colored stylized green mythological dolphin spouting a small jet of water. The border is ornamented with a repeating sequence of ammonite-style shells, starfish set against circular green grounds, and undulating seaweed fronds in shades of brown and black. The reverse bears a black printed backstamp in the shape of a sea serpent, enclosing the text Dolphin by Laurence Whistler, Wedgwood, Barlaston, and Made in England.
