Wilm Rohkamm (Wilhelm Rohkamm, 20th century) Selbstbildnis im Atelier – Öl auf Leinwand, 1947 – signiert „W. Rohkamm 1947“ This impressive painting comes from Wilm Rohkamm, a German painter and graphic artist who is attributed to late classical modernism and expressive realism. Rohkamm was academically trained, connected within West German art life, and listed in renowned artist directories such as Dressler's Art Manual — a sign of his professional standing in the art world of his time. The present work from 1947 belongs to his postwar period, in which Rohkamm painted more freely, with impasto and greater expressiveness. The subdued earth tones, the strong blue of the painter's toolkit, and the concentrated posture of the depicted figure reflect the introspective mood of German postwar art. The scene shows an artist at his worktable – surrounded by brushes, paint palettes, paper and an easel. The calm, serious expression, the posture of the body and the proximity to the painting tools suggest that it is a self-portrait. The signature „W. Rohkamm 1947“ lower right confirms the personal significance of the work: a moment of pause, a look at the artist himself, captured in a time of new beginnings. The painting measures 82 × 52 cm (canvas size), executed in oil on canvas and shows an authentic patina. The condition is very good for its age, only a slight dent bottom left is visible, but it does not affect the overall impression. Rohkamm's works occasionally appear in the German art trade, especially in northern and western Germany. Studio scenes and self-portraits are considered among collectors to be his most interesting motifs. An expressive document of a professional artist – and a rare testament to German postwar modernism. Shipping is carried out carefully and securely packed, exclusively with tracking.
