Wunda shield. Aboriginal people, Australia, 19th–20th century

Descriptio Wood. Dimensions: 75 × 7.5 cm. Traditional Australian Wunda-type shield, carved from a single piece of wood and decorated with geometric zigzag incisions, with traces of red pigmentation on the reverse. This type of shield was used in both defensive and ceremonial contexts, serving a symbolic as well as a practical function. The formal simplicity, combined with the balanced proportions and the patina of use, reflects the close relationship between functionality, cultural identity, and artistic expression in Australian Aboriginal traditions. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
