Y A GEORGE III SABICU, MAHOGANY AND MARQUETRY OCTAGONAL TRIPOD TABLE

Y A GEORGE III SABICU, MAHOGANY AND MARQUETRY OCTAGONAL TRIPOD TABLE IN THE MANNER OF HENRY HILL OF MARLBOROUGH, CIRCA 1770 69cm high, 64cm diameter For examples of related floral and c scroll scalloped cartouche marquetry attributed to Henry Hill of Marlborough see Lucy Wood, The Lady Lever Art Gallery Catalogue of Commodes, figs. 53-55, reflecting Henry Hill's German connections. For a related George III sabicu and marquetry table, attributed to Thomas Chippendale see also Dreweatts, Fine Furniture, 10th September 2025, lot 126 (£9,000 excl. BP), this table compares very closely to a number of other known tables of this design and which were undoubtedly made by Chippendale. In Christopher Gilbert's The Life & Work Of Thomas Chippendale, this model of table is described as one of Chippendale's 'most popular occasional table design types' with its veneer-segmented hexagonal top, baluster shaped pedestal and similarly profiled legs with scrolled feet, although presented in several variants. Condition Report: Marks, scratches, knocks and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some veneer movement/slight lifting discernible by touch, some veneer replacements; some cracks to the underside of the tilt top with possible later timber inset with later staining to the underside. The top possibly at a slight angle, two of the feet with later timber blocks to slightly raise them and screws to the underside. Two legs repaired (cracks barely visible) close to the column, a metal underbrace to the three legs. Impressive in the quality of the carving and the fluidity and lightness of the legs. Please see all additional images accessible via the link in the report - they are a vital part of this condition report Condition Report Disclaimer, Y, Y A GEORGE III SABICU, MAHOGANY AND MARQUETRY OCTAGONAL TRIPOD TABLE IN THE MANNER OF HENRY HILL OF MARLBOROUGH, CIRCA 1770 69cm high, 64cm diameter For examples of related floral and c scroll scalloped cartouche marquetry attributed to Henry Hill of Marlborough see Lucy Wood, The Lady Lever Art Gallery Catalogue of Commodes, figs. 53-55, reflecting Henry Hill's German connections.
