“Yamauba" (的山姥 of 山姥図) - Nagasawa Rosetsu (1754–1799)...

Japanese woodblock print (reprint) - Nagasawa Rosetsu (1754–1799) - Yamauba" (的山姥 of 山姥図) - 1950 Dimensions: 20 cm x 37 cm Condition and state of the print: The print is in good condition. The colors (especially red and black) are still strong and there is no heavy damage such as cracks or holes. There are only normal signs of aging, such as natural discoloration (browning) of the paper. The print: This specific artwork is a reprint of the famous painting "Yamauba and Kintarō" from 1797, created by the eccentric Japanese master Nagasawa Rosetsu. The work depicts a tender yet intense moment from Japanese mythology between the mountain witch Yamauba and her powerful, fiercely red son Kintarō, with Rosetsu's unique style beautifully coming through in the contrast between broad ink strokes and very finely worked white hairs. Depending on the paper structure, this reproduction probably originates from the Showa period between 1930 and 1970, or from the last forty years as a modern museum print. The overall condition of this print is good, as the colors and black ink have remained striking and there is no serious damage, aside from light signs of aging such as mild creases and a natural, even yellowing of the paper. Showa period: The Showa period (1926–1989) was an important era for Japanese printmaking. The traditional ukiyo-e style remained popular but was redesigned for a modern audience. Shipping: The woodblock print is carefully and securely packed to protect it during transport. The print is sent by registered mail with a Track & Trace code, allowing the shipment to be tracked throughout the entire journey.
