Title: Bateau Technique: Oil on wooden panel. Signed at lower left “Dieulafe”.. Canvas format: 51 x 75 cm. Overall size: 65 cm x 88 cm Condition: good condition. Yvon Dieulafé (1903–1990) was a French painter born in Béziers. Trained at the Académie Julian by P. A. Laurens, he began at the Salon des Indépendants in 1922. A traveling painter, he was entrusted with a exploration mission to the Sahara from 1925 to 1930. He traveled through Algeria, Morocco and Corsica, associating with artists such as Bonamici. He later settled in Vendée, passing away at Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in 1990. His pictorial style is firmly within a post-impressionist approach. He excels in oil painting technique, often on wood panel or isorel. His work focuses particularly on faithful renderings of maritime landscapes. He accurately captures the variations of light and the atmosphere of coastlines. Seascapes, busy ports and ships are among his preferred themes. He also paints rural landscapes, autumn forests and marsh scenes. His oeuvre also includes delicate watercolors and precise drawings.
