Z.Morg – Peasants by the hearth. European school, 19th century

Descriptio Oil on panel. Dimensions: 38 cm x 19 cm each. A pair of rural scenes set in Southern Europe, depicting an old man engaged in domestic chores while a young woman, with a melancholic expression, holds a basket of fruit. The figures, treated with tenderness, are integrated into intimate compositions that stand out for their soft colors, the careful representation of the architectural surroundings, and the delicate use of chiaroscuro. The style reveals a Romantic sensibility and a nostalgic view of peasant life. This type of work reflects the 19th-century interest in capturing simple customs and traditional trades, falling within the realm of sentimental realism. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed.
