A Rapier sword is a slim, pointed thrusting sword that, in the 16th and 17th centuries in Europe, was used by the wealthy bourgeoisie. This entirely silver letter opener originates from an inheritance/estate of a family from Leiden, the Netherlands. The original owner was an avid collector of Dutch silver items. The letter opener was purchased in the 1980s from an auction house in Amsterdam.
