Lot Description Title: Le Baiser (The Kiss) Artist: Jules Desbois (1851–1935) Period: Circa 1890 (Fin de Siècle) Style: Symbolist / Rodinesque Sculpture (Early Art Nouveau) Medium: Patinated Terracotta / Clay sketch (bozzetto) Dimensions: Width 20 cm x Height 13.5 cm Signature: Incised "J. Desbois" on the base The Artwork & Style This fine terracotta sketch (bozzetto) captures Le Baiser, one of the most iconic compositions by French sculptor Jules Desbois. As a key collaborator of Auguste Rodin, Desbois embraced the master's expressive style: vibrant clay work, muscular tension, and dramatic emotional depth. Positioned at the intersection of Sensual Symbolism and early Art Nouveau, Desbois' interpretation of the intertwined embrace stands alongside masterworks like Rodin’s The Kiss and Camille Claudel’s Sakountala. Museum Relevance & Comparables Desbois conceived this model around 1890. The final master version—a glazed stoneware (grès émaillé) created in collaboration with master ceramicist Auguste Delaherche—is held at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Additional casts in plaster and bronze are conserved in major collections (including the Petit Palais, Paris). Key Features of this Piece Signature: Hand-incised signature "J. Desbois" on the lower base, matching historical authentic hands. Modeling Quality: Dynamic and intimate clay handling that retains the immediacy and freshness of an original sculptor's preparatory study. Condition: Excellent historical condition with a rich, authentic period patina Jules Desbois (1851–1935) – "Le Baiser" (Il Bacio) Bozzetto / Modellato originale in terracotta patinata ITA | Descrizione del Lotto Titolo dell'opera: Le Baiser (Il Bacio) Artista: Jules Desbois (1851–1935) Epoca: Circa 1890 (Fin de Siècle) Stile: Scultura Simbolista / Rodiniana (Pre-Art Nouveau) Materiale: Terracotta / Cotto con patina brunita dell'epoca Dimensioni: Larghezza 20 cm x Altezza 13,5 cm Firma: Incisa "J.
