E. García - La señorita leyendo XL

MISS READING is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. This work depicts a young woman elegantly dressed, seated in a bright interior while holding a book in her hands. The figure appears absorbed in reading, unaware of the spectator, and conveys a sense of calm, intimacy, and refinement. Her wide light dress and delicate hat turn the scene into a contemporary evocation of early 20th-century feminine elegance. The composition centers around the central figure, whose dress occupies much of the foreground and provides rhythm through broad brushstrokes in whites, blue-tinged grays, and soft pink tones. Around her, the artist places a green table with a blue vase full of flowers, a sofa with decorative textiles, and a window that opens the space to an exterior landscape. These elements build a warm domestic atmosphere, where reading is presented as a moment of retreat and contemplation. Color plays an essential role. The blues of the wall, of the vase, and the shadows of the dress contrast with the pinks, greens, and warm tones of the floor. The hat introduces peach and coral notes that soften the face, while the pink cushion with vegetal motifs reinforces the decorative character of the interior. Ernest García uses a broad, free, visible brushstroke, simplifying forms to enhance light and chromatic harmony. The work shows affinities with Fauvism and with Henri Matisse’s interior tradition, especially for the integration between figure, textiles, flowers, and color. There are also echoes of Pierre Bonnard in domestic intimacy and in transforming an everyday scene into a sensory experience. The theme of the reading woman also connects with a long art-historical tradition linked to education, independence, and women’s inner life. More than a portrait, Miss Reading celebrates reading as a space of freedom and quiet contemplation. The protagonist seems suspended in her own time, while the surroundings become an extension of her mood. The scene conveys serenity, sensitivity, and timeless elegance, turning a simple gesture into an image of great poetic power. Miss Reading is especially appealing to collectors interested in contemporary figurative painting, women reading, female portraiture, elegant interiors, intimate scenes, period dresses, hats, flowers, books in art, decorative art, Fauvism, Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, colorful painting, and contemporary art collecting. Authenticity and Shipping: The work is offered directly by E. García, guaranteeing its authenticity with a certificate signed by the artist himself. The painting will be carefully rolled and protected inside a sturdy cardboard tube for shipping. After payment is confirmed, a three-day period is required to prepare the piece and ship it.
